ARC of EVO Shift

I was lucky to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of EVO Shift by K.J. Chapman, and so far I’m getting through it rather quickly! A full review will follow once I’ve finished it, but so far I’m really enjoying it and am worried for my few favourite characters who are still alive in this sequel. It’s been a rather tense but quick read so far with a few natural laughs built in to ease the tension.

Release Date: 1st March 2016, available as eBook

Blurb:

She killed him, but did it make a difference?

Her kind has been exposed, abused, and segregated, and now Teddie Leason is Britain’s most wanted EVO at just nineteen. Teddie has to decide whose side she is on, what she fights for, and whether it’s worth her life.

How can she protect the man she adores, the Uncle who has taken her under his wing, and her unfaltering friends, when she can barely take care of herself? Dealing with new power and a history that has long since been forgotten, has rendered the world’s most powerful EVO vulnerable and at risk.

When will she be dealt a winning hand? Could a clandestine, renegade group of EVO change not only her fate, but that of everyone affected by this unprecedented war? And how does Teddie fit in a world bracing for a shift of unfathomable magnitude?

Warheart

As always the full review will follow tomorrow. I can’t believe I’m done with this series, that I’ve read all 17 books, but I am and I have and I’m in that awkward position now where I don’t want to move on but am excited for the next adventure, too. It’s been a fantastic ride, and Goodkind makes me want to be a better writer.

Blurb:

Soulmates, pawns of prophecy and inheritors of an ancient conflict, Richard and Kahlan’s destinies have been bound together since their first encounter in Wizard’s First Rule. But now Richard lies on a funeral bier – suspended between the worlds of life and death and Kahlan faces her greatest challenge.

She must fight for Richard’s very existence, and Richard, trapped in the underworld, must fight to keep the world of life from ending. Desperate sacrifices are required. This is the final battle in a war three-millennia old, a war that saw the Sword of Truth forged, a war that could mean the end, not only of their lives, but of their world.

What I think I’ll read next

I can’t decide. Two weeks ago I said I’d read The Name of the Wind next, but since then I’ve bought myself a few new additions and I’d really like something shorter after Goodkind’s series. I’m torn between these two:

A Darker Shade of Magic

I’ve been wanting to read a book by her for so long, I can’t wait to finally get to it. I’ve also heard a lot of good stuff about this book which has me even more excited for it. She also seems like a wonderful person from what I’ve seen of her on twitter, which I know shouldn’t influence me but, well, it does. It’s been high up on my reading list for a while, so if I don’t read this next it’ll be the one after.

Blurb:

Kell is one of the last Travelers—rare magicians who choose a parallel universe to visit.

Grey London is dirty, boring, lacks magic, ruled by mad King George. Red London is where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. People fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. Once there was Black London—but no one speaks of that now.

Officially, Kell is the Red Traveler, personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell smuggles for those willing to pay for even a glimpse of a world they’ll never see. This dangerous hobby sets him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She robs him, saves him from a dangerous enemy, then forces him to another world for her ‘proper adventure’.

But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive—trickier than they hoped.

More of Me

I love a good psychological background in a book. If you’ve read my About Me you’ll know that I read psychology books for fun. This was too tempting for me not to pick up, and Kathryn Evans is such a sweet lady from what I’ve seen of her online (I’m so easily influenced! I don’t pick all my authors that way… I swear I don’t.) . I can’t wait to read this. I was so excited for it that I pre-ordered it (after having forgotten that I also entered the give-away – it’s okay, I didn’t win).

Blurb:

Teva seems normal. But at home she hides an impossible secret: 11 other Tevas. Because once a year, Teva splits into two, leaving a younger version of herself stuck at the same age, forced to watch the new Teva taking over her life. But at 16, Teva’s had enough. She’s going to fight for her future – even if that means fighting herself.

Imagine all your friends growing up, moving on, and you being stuck in one year of your life… More of Me is an incredible, unforgettable story of identity, friendship, love and sacrifice.

Now, I do believe I’ve got a book to pick!
