I’m not going to be around much today since I’m off work and trying to be lazy, but I’ll get back to everyone’s comments tomorrow 🙂
This meme is hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words. A similar meme, This Week in Books is hosted by Lipsyy Lost and Found.
Why not join in? Just answer the following three questions in a post and then put a link to that post in the comments over at Taking on a World of Words.
This meme will be categorised together with my book reviews. All links will get you to the book’s Goodreads listing, as always 🙂

What I’m currently reading
I know I said I wouldn’t buy more books until I finished my tbr pile, but I was weak and bought this one ❤ I couldn’t resist – after the first two books in this series I wasn’t prepared to wait! I tried, and couldn’t do it.
I’m flying through Witch Infernal. I love seeing Evie’s more vulnerable side, and especially love how her relationship with Lysander is developing.
The way I’ve been getting through this I expect I’ll be done with this quite soon, possibly even by the time this post publishes.
Blurb:
The city’s been quiet since Evie and her friends closed the hellmouth. The lycans and Sidhe are on their best behaviour, the witches haven’t been heard from, and Evie should be enjoying the break.
Evelyn Hawke wasn’t made for the quiet life. She’s bored.
Luckily for her, things start going wrong, and she’s expected to fix everyone else’s problems. A trio of celestials task Evie and her friends with the job of tracking down the witch who opened the hellmouth and putting an end to her. Little do they know that the witch has big plans and a far-reaching influence.
and…
I’ve been meaning to read this for a while and have high expectations now that I’m getting around to it. Sadly, it’s really hard to tear myself away from Witch Infernal, so this isn’t getting the attention I want to give it. The only thing I can really say about this one so far is that it’s got a lot of info to take in, that it feels like it’s going to be a slow read, and that it’s a fantastic example of excellent world building.
Blurb:
Yeine Darr is an outcast from the barbarian north. But when her mother dies under mysterious circumstances, she is summoned to the majestic city of Sky. There, to her shock, Yeine is named an heiress to the king. But the throne of the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is not easily won, and Yeine is thrust into a vicious power struggle.

What I recently finished reading
I loved this so, so much! I wasn’t sure how I would take to it since ADSoM and AGoS were a little meh for me, but I enjoyed this so much more! I feel bad for constantly comparing the two (mostly as in “I liked this a lot more!”) but I can’t help myself.
I loved the characters and the world, and will be writing up my full review soon. Expect a lot of gushing.
Blurb:
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.
and…
Since this was my first sci-fi read I went in with no expectations. It was a great introduction to the genre for me, and definitely won’t be my last sci-fi book. It’s easy to see why Asimov is considered one of the masters of sci-fi, and I’m looking forward to reading his other books I already have waiting on my shelf.
Blurb:
The classic collection of robot stories from the master of the genre. One of the Voyager Classics collection, now I, Robot is a major Fox movie starring Will Smith. In these stories Isaac Asimov creates the Three Laws of Robotics and ushers in the Robot Age. When Earth is ruled by master-machines, when robots often seem more human than mankind, the Three Laws ensure that humans remain superior and the robots are kept in their rightful place. But an insane telepathic robot results from a production error; a robot assembled in space logically deduces its superiority to non-rational humanity; and when machines serve mankind rather than individual humans, the machine’s idea of what is good for society may itself contravene the sacred Three Laws… Amazing and timeless robot stories from the greatest science fiction writer of all time.

What I think I’ll read next
I have no idea. I’m preparing this post quite far in advance since I’m off work the day this post publishes, so I won’t get a chance to do it right before as I usually do. There are a few books that tempt me but I’m not even that far into Witch Infernal yet (as I’m writing this, not as you’re reading this – don’t be surprised if I’ve finished it by now) – I know anything I’d say now would change by the time I pick my next read. Might as well wait 🙂

It’s interesting to hear your thoughts on irobot, I’ve never read it and think I should but Melanie Noell Bernard had a very different view:

Every book attracts different opinions, so if you want to read it go for it! Perhaps there’s a sample on Amazon? It’s a pretty short book with 249 pages, so it’s not much of a commitment 🙂

I’ll just read it. I like the difference of opinions here, I only pointed it out for interest as I remember reading Melanie’s post yesterday.

I did have a quick read over her review and if it helps, I don’t think the lack of a hero as we know them is a bad thing. If anything I think I, Robot is proof that not every story needs a hero to work! I think having a hero like the ones we’re used to now would have made it a very different book.

Like I say – I like the different points of view.

Here’s mine 🙂
I’ve seen the movie of “I, Robot,” and in this instance really liked the way there were many grey areas… Sometimes, to be really thought provoking, a story needs that, rather than black and white “good guys and bad guys”.

I haven’t seen the movie so I don’t know how it compares. I’m careful with movie adaptations, but I know it was very well received! There are plenty of grey areas in the book, too, so perhaps it’s fairly close?
Thanks for your link, I’ll pop over in a minute 🙂

I haven’t read the book, so I can’t compare that. 🙂 But I’m very careful with movie adaptations, too. Sometimes it doesn’t matter if they change some things, as long as the essence of the story/characters is still maintained!

I’ve never read Asimov, or much Sci-fi, but that one sounds good.

I think it’s a good representation of the genre while also being very different to most other books. It’s written in a different style than I’m used to but I think it suited it 🙂 My review will be up this Thursday, keep an eye out 🙂 I hope you enjoy it if you choose to read it!

I wish I enjoyed urban fantasy, but I gave it a try a few years ago when I was participating in an “eclectic reading challenge.” Maybe another go?
Enjoy your books, and here’s MY WWW POST

Yup, the shades of magic series! And it’s sad you didn’t enjoy the first two books in the series as much as this savage song. I loved ADSoM and AGoS but who knows I’ll love TSS even more?! Haha.

Don’t get me wrong, I did like them and I thought the world was great, but they just didn’t grab me. I can definitely see why people love them! I enjoyed them but I also didn’t really enjoy them if that makes sense? It’s not a reaction I have often, so I don’t have a word for it 😛

I did, I’m glad it wasn’t over-hyped for me as ADSoM was. I hope the same won’t happen to you if you read it based on all these good reviews! I do think it’s worth the hype, but it’s so easy to expect too much when praise is all your hear.

I’m glad This Savage Song worked for you! 😀
So…. since I’m aiming to not buy too many books and work through the ones I already have, should I be maybe saving Infernal Ties for further down the track when I’m buying them again, so I can buy the sequels straight away? 😉

You could do, but they’re pretty short books so they’re not a long term commitment 😉

Witch Infernal was wonderful! I hope you enjoy the rest of it!
I have the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms on my TBR! I have such high hopes for it 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed This Savage Song. I’m hoping to get to it either by the end of this year or the start of the next. I think Vicious might end up being my next VE read.
I should really check out I, Robot too.
Good luck choosing what to turn to next.
Happy Reading.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is good but there’s a lot to take in. I might re-read it at some point just to take in everything properly that happens in the beginning! I hope you enjoy it when you get to it 🙂
I haven’t read Vicious yet but it’s somewhere on my tbr list, too.
Happy reading! 🙂
