What I’m currently reading
Chances are I’ll have finished Thrown to the Blue by the time this post publishes, because I’m flying through it! It’s Tuesday evening right now as I’m typing this, and I have 4% left! Since this is an ARC I’ll have to push my review for The Raven Boys back a little to make sure this review posts in time for its release date on the 11th November.
Blurb:
Foretellings have no place for goodness, only greatness. Princess Ezrahli is far from good, but she is a great woman in a conventional Kingdom, followed by whispers and scorn. However, across the waters is un-convention, magic, and fable. Her existence has been foretold in the battle against dark magic, and destiny shall weave itself into her life because darkness cannot be fought with goodness, only greatness.
Smuggling and sorcery leads to adventure, and adventure leads to destiny. Reed is a prince of the streets, but what he lacks in title, he makes up for in skill; a skill that sets him on a path already written in fate. Can he be more than what is expected? Can he enable greatness in another and survive the process?
Vengeance is a motivator, but it can never be your friend. In the end, it will ask for sacrifice, and only the great will pay the fare.
And
The Last Day of Captain Lincoln
I received a copy for review and because I’m impatient I started reading it already 🙂 I’m not too far into it yet but have mixed feelings to far. The first chapter didn’t sell me, but several people have told me how much they loved it and the next chapter did read a lot better, so I’ll keep an open mind for a little bit longer. I do love the blurb, and the little bit that I’ve read so far makes you ponder your mortality, which is a huge plus! Gotta love books that make you think!
Blurb:
Captain Lincoln’s last day is the hardest day of his life.
An old, onetime Captain of the interstellar spaceship USNAS Hope Eternal, Lincoln always knew that this day would come. For just as birthdays are carefully planned, so are deaths. And although he must reckon with his fate, this is not a somber story. It is a tale of love and sacrifice, told in the context of the most advanced civilization ever to exist—a society that has taken to the stars in an effort to save all that is best in humanity.
Follow Lincoln through his internal struggles, his joy in having lived, and his journey to peace.
The End is just the beginning.

What I recently finished reading
Oh how I wanted to love this, but I’m afraid I couldn’t. I had several issues with this, my biggest one being Blue, the main character, who felt more like a side character who added nothing to the plot. I’m not convinced that the story couldn’t have happened without her. I did love the four boys and their banter, they’re the books redeeming feature in my opinion. They snatched the MC spot away from Blue and owned it!
I know quite a few people aren’t as excited about the sequel because it’s from Ronan’s POV, but for me that’s the reason I want to read the sequel at all. Ronan was the most intriguing character in my opinion, and I’m looking forward to reading more from his POV.
Blurb:
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue never sees them–until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks to her.
His name is Gansey, a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul whose emotions range from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher who notices many things but says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She doesn’t believe in true love, and never thought this would be a problem. But as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

What I think I’ll read next
I’ve received a copy for review of The Finite, which makes my decision easy! I’m always thrilled when people offer me free books (who wouldn’t be?) but it’s the blurb that drew me in right away, and I’m really excited to get to it.
After that it’ll definitely be a paperback again. My current two reads are on my kindle and The Finite will be as well, and it’s just not the same!
Blurb:
Claudia lives in the hoop, a space city that orbits around earth. She follows the rules her society built for everyone. Just like everyone in her society, perfection is essential to maintain a peaceful society. Without war, or destruction. Claudia discovers that people gone missing. There were wicked plans for the abducted people. She meets Ricky Maxwell from earth, and starts an alliance with people she met from earth. She and her friends sit to find the missing families, and try to stop wars between planets.

Uh oh. I picked up the Raven Boys from Amazon yesterday as I’d heard a lot of good things about it. Hopefully I’ll get on a little better.

The trick with The Raven Boys is to not pay attention to the inside cover, or to anything you’ve heard about it. Just read it with an open mind and go with the flow.

Going in with an open mind is fantastic advice for any book! 🙂 All I knew when I started it was that a lot of people loved it, so it didn’t have much to live up to. I had no specific expectations regarding the plot, other than what the blurb told me.
Ali, I’m sure you’ll get on better with it than I did! It has all those good reviews for a reason! 🙂 Honestly, I think I’ve just become a lot more fussy than I used to be 😛

The Finite sounds really interesting – hope you enjoy it! I am sorry you didn’t enjoy The Raven Boys so much, I really liked that series – and Ronan was one of my favourite characters! He is also getting his own spin off series I have heard which is great!

Yay! I’m so happy to see some love for Ronan! I don’t understand why so many people seem to be against him – I thought the dark, broody types were cool? Or has that passed while I wasn’t looking? :O
I’m really looking forward to The Finite. It’s not getting much love on Goodreads, but the blurb is so intriguing!
Popping over to yours now 🙂 Thanks for visiting!

That was one of my issues with The Raven Boys, too – it felt like the synopsis on the inside cover was misleading! Blue isn’t really the focus until book 3. And a lot of her story doesn’t even tie in with the boys until after she meets them – the blurb makes it sound as if she’s the driving force behind everything they do. Poor editing.

It definitely was, and as you say, it’s down to poor editing. Can you imagine if a debut indie author had a misleading blurb? They’d get slated!

I’ve never read Stiefvater…and, while I’m curious, I suspect her books won’t be my kind of read. I am also curious about The Finite. I’ll be watching for your thoughts. Thanks for sharing. Here’s MY WWW POST

I just visited your WWW post and I don’t think it’d be your kind of book either. Then again, sometimes we read outside our preferred genres and are positively surprised! Perhaps fantasy not being your usual genre would go in its favour? 🙂
Happy reading! 🙂

It really wasn’t, and for the most part I blame Blue 😛 I just didn’t see the point of her, but people assure me she plays a bigger part in the later books.
Happy reading! 🙂

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! Maybe if I hadn’t thought of Blue as the main character I’d have liked it more since she’s more of a side character in my opinion. I’ll look forward to seeing what you thought about it! 🙂

It’s entirely because of the dynamic between the boys and Ronan! I don’t know when I’ll get to the sequel, though, my tbr pile is rather high already!
My pleasure, as always! 🙂 Happy reading! 🙂

I somehow had it in my head that Thrown to the Blue was a contemporary – no idea why! Now that I’ve read the blurb, it sounds really intriguing! Might have to give it a look.
I know what you mean about The Raven Boys and Blue in particular. I actually thought that The Dream Thieves was the strongest of the four books, even though Ronan wasn’t necessarily my favourite character.

Please do! My review is already up on Goodreads if that helps?
I’m glad so many people agree. A few people told me that The Raven Boys was one of their favourite books so I wasn’t sure how my view on it would go down. I’m not sure when I’ll get to The Dream Thieves but I’ll definitely up it on my list 🙂

It was good but a little long in places and it felt more like a creative essay on mortality to me 🙂 I hope you enjoy it when you get to it! I’ll have my review up on Goodreads and Amazon early next week hopefully 🙂
