After posting some blogging tips and know-hows last week I thought I’d follow up with how I do things! Just in case you were wondering š
If you’re one of my regular readers you’ll know that there are certain posts I post all the time. My schedule looks something like this:
Monday – Writing Prompt
Tuesday – Wisdom and Knowledge *ahem* & Guest Posts (starting this month!)
Wednesday – WWW Wednesday, bi-weekly
Thursday – book reviews (irregular)
Friday – Progress Update
Saturday & Sunday – GLORIOUS NOTHING!
I schedule all my posts ahead of time. Sometimes just by a few weeks (or days, even, during busy times) but other times I’m months ahead! The only exception to this are my progress updates on Friday. I’m an organised person who gets the giddy jitters when she hears the words ‘colour coding’, ‘post-it note’ or ‘highlighters’, and prefer having posts prepared. That way I don’t panic if I don’t have a post ready, and so far blogging hasn’t felt like a chore.
I often take notes for future posts so by the time I write it I already have a couple of things written down. This is especially true for my progress updates, for which I take notes throughout the week (from the moment the previous update has been posted). When I then write the next progress update I know I won’t miss anything! I also keep a page in my BulletJournal for all my posts. That way I know exactly what I’m publishing when, whether it still needs to be written or whether it just needs to be edited – or whether it’s ready to go!
The only posts I definitely post weekly are the writing prompt, the Tuesday musings, and the progress update on Friday. I don’t read enough to have a new WWW post every Wednesday, and I don’t post reviews every Thursday for the same reason.
I keep the weekends empty because they are weekends. There’s a lot of pressure on self-employed people like writers to work all the time or else they should feel guilty. By keeping the weekends free I give myself a break, and allow myself time to relax a little before Monday. I know several writers who have burned out, and it shouldn’t like this. Self-employed people aren’t machines, and need a breather, to – and you definitely shouldn’t feel guilty!
I also follow a lot of blogs, and make an effort to stay caught up on 9 of them. It’s a shame but it’s just not possible for me to read every update that pops into my reader, so having this list helps a lot. These are the 9 awesome blogs on said list:
Go on over there and visit them if you haven’t already, it’ll be very worth your time!
I don’t always manage to stay caught up on their posts, but I try. I’m also adding to the list whenever a blog I really, really love pops up, so this list will expand over time.
How do you blog? Do you plan ahead and schedule posts, or do you write on the day? Do you post regularly, or whenever you feel like it? I love seeing how other people organise themselves, if at all, so please get in touch!

Thank you for the shout out! š
I’ve been trying to turn off at weekends too. I used to be on social media etc. all the time, which is no way to go because eventually you end up resenting it all and not looking forward to getting on there š¦
I try and stick to a Monday – Friday schedule too. Although it’s a bit all over the place this month with Camp Nano… but nevermind š

Any time! š
I agree, I used to do the same thing. Staying off twitter and my blog at the weekend is harder than not editing or writing, because I can do it so easily from my phone.
NaNo does make things a bit more tricky, haha, but because so many of us do it people are understanding š

Thanks for the mention! I write when something pops into my head. I did have a regular Monday post but I felt like people weren’t that interested so I let it slide. I try to post at least once a week but things have been hectic as of late.

Gladly! ā¤ Cancelling posts if there's no interest is the right thing to do, although it can take a while and not everyone comments! It is trickier when life gets busy but I think the writing community is a very understanding one, and we've all had busy spells!

I usuall binge-write on Sunday since it’s my only break from work. Then, I post them over the week. The graphics and pics, I do it during work since I feel more creative when doing.. far more.. important things.. Ahahah Sometimes I just wing it. I center most of my life these days on blogging and work, unlike before when I do like three hobbies at the same time. It’s much easier when you know your priorities.

Haha, I write some of my posts during work so I know what you mean ^^ It’s very quiet at this time of year (I work in a library and the students went home over Easter) so I’ve got time š
It definitely is! Knowing your priorities keeps you focused.
Binge-writing sounds all right, writing sprints usually work well for me! š

Thanks for the mention! š
I like to be organized just not when it comes to blogging. I don’t plan an exact day to make posts and sometimes when I write a post I post it that day. It depends. I check my social media everyday because I don’t like being behind but I don’t stay on it long.

Gladly!
That was my approach with my first blogs, so I know it doesn’t work for me. If I’m not organised and schedule ahead I’ll stress about it or won’t remember.
It’s too easy to fall behind on social media! Especially twitter, where we get hundreds of new posts a day. Well done on staying caught up!

What a great post as always!
Last year and the beginning of this year I had a plan in place to have scheduled posts and it worked for the time but then I realised it some was working and some wasn’t.
So now I have an idea of what I want to post but don’t have a plan. It’s nice to write notes in preparation.
It was nice to hear your plan and thank you for the shout out.
I try to make sure Saturday and Sunday are my downtime days š

You should have downtime days, especially after having completed your first novel! You deserve a short break š

Thanks for the shout-out Sarina! You’re really too kind!
I keep trying to stick to my routine but trying to finish my edits and drafts has required me to play around with those ideas. I still want to establish certain posts. Something to work on š
This is a great post though! Thanks for sharing ā¤

Any time! Your wonderful blog deserves all of the attention ā¤
I understand, editing and formatting has messed up my routine a little as well. It's always good to keep it in mind at least š

Soo I’m totally catching up on yours now, as if the flood of notifications wasn’t enough of a signal :p. I have scheduled posts but they often aren’t completed until the day of…oops. But I do take notes in advance and jot down any kind of ideas that might pop into my head.
Sometimes (a lot, it seems lately) I don’t follow through with a post on its particular day. I’ve come to accept this and tell myself it’s okay but I can’t help but feeling bad at times.
Great post as usual and thank you so so much for including me on your list. Seeing my little ole blog next to the other names on your list has completely made my day! Thanks you!!

Well, I’m trying to catch up on all your comments so I’m flooding your inbox, too š
It’s definitely okay not to post. Keeping a blog with regular updates is a job in itself, and you’re allowed to take breaks. I’ll likely start posting less, too, at some point so I can’t focus more on my sequel š
Any time, Moll, your blog is amazing and deserves all the exposure!
